About the AspDotNetMVC.com Web Site

I was immediately intrigued by the ASP.NET MVC Framework the first time I heard about it. After watching an ASP.NET MVC video or two I knew I was hooked. But with work, some other side projects, and a lot of technologies being released at about the same time I knew it would be a while before I could dig into it. Once I did start looking for information I was amazed at the large amount of content that had already been created in just a few short months. But I was also disturbed that there was no one place to find all the good information - it seemed to be scattered across the Internet - on blogs, in articles on various sites, in small snippets on Twitter and other micro blogging platforms.

Unlike some of the newer technologies, like Silverlight and Microsoft's Silverlight.Net site, there was no hub for ASP.NET MVC. Microsoft's own ASP.NET site had a section for MVC, but it was just a couple of links and a handful of videos.

This site began as my own personal way to gather some of the blog posts, articles, and various information about ASP.NET MVC in one place. Currently that is exactly what the site does. It automatically aggregates news, blog posts, buzz, and videos about ASP.NET MVC from RSS feeds from various sources. Additionally, links to sites that are running on the ASP.NET MVC Framework are submitted by the community, reviewed by me and then posted to the site. This is my one place for keeping abreast of everything going on with ASP.NET MVC and discovering and learning new stuff. It can be yours, too. :)

I've been asked about building this into a complete community site by adding features like forums. Time willing, I hope to add forums at some point in the future. In the near future (the next couple of weeks) I plan to make use of one of the already existing ASP.NET MVC open source projects, Kigg - a Digg clone, to integrate community voting into the content collected by this site. Stay tuned.

No, this site was not written using the ASP.NET MVC Framework. My initial plan was to build the site in ASP.NET MVC to serve as my learning tool and springboard. Soon enough I realized that I simply did not know enough to be able to get it up and running in the timeframe I wanted by taking that approach. However, I did keep an eye on migrating in the future as I designed it. Hopefully sooner than later this site about ASP.NET MVC will be converted to ASP.NET MVC.

Thanks and enjoy,
Dan Hounshell
